Fare is a bi-annual print publication exploring city culture through the intersection of food, history, and community.

Each issue is guided by locals of the city. We work with as many local writers, photographers, and illustrators as possible, so that in addition to expert insight, you also get a sense of the creative aesthetic.

The magazine is curated and designed to be interesting for all readers— regardless of prior interest, or intention to visit. We’ve heard from numerous readers that issues of the magazine summon up the real spirit of their home town, or motivate them to vacation somewhere new and different. It can be a roadmap, or just armchair reading.

Istanbul is a stunning metropolis uniquely poised across two continents. An imperial capital to three sprawling empires, the city has been shaped and reshaped by a unique mix of migrant cultures spanning from Eastern Europe to North Africa and the Middle East.

In Fare Issue 01: Istanbul:

  • An old man's closet-sized shop and ingenious system that supplies tea for hundreds in the Grand Bazaar

  • Istanbul's ancient love affair with the bonito fish and pickled lakerda

  • Old school food shopping and a carnivore's paradise at the butcher shops of the Kadiköy Market

  • A night out at the meyhanes, taverns that find their origins in Byzantine Constantinople

  • Kuzguncuk’s 700-year-old urban garden, one of the last of its kind to survive the city's development
